Today in History: On February 1, 1960 four black college students sat down at a Woolworth’s lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina to challenge segregation policies. The four remained until the store closed. They returned the next day. Police came in to remove the four. Other protestors were ready to fill their seats. Similar protests spread throughout the south. The sit-ins helped to spark a movement and national attention to segregation laws in the south.
