Today in History: On September 29, 1941, Nazis marched 34,000 Jewish men, women and children from Kiev to Babi Yar on the outskirts of the Ukrainian town. Once at the ravine, they were forced to undress before they were machine-gunned and covered in dirt. The massacre became one of the worst single day atrocities committed by the Germans during World War II. When the Soviets were pushing west and threatening to liberate Ukraine, Nazi’s exhumed the bodies and burnt them in order to try and hide their acts.
